The Handicraft - Kashida
Developed over generations, Kashida is one of the oldest Kashmiri handicrafts. It is applied to the leather by hand with the help of a small “aari”, a hand tool similar to a crochet hook. Originally used to decorate clothing and the famous Kashmiri shawls,. It is practiced by both men and women. Kashmir produces Kashida of the highest quality. It is a historically important export for Kashmir.

CROSS CULTURAL PROJECT
Designed in Australia by royalty-paid Aboriginal Artists and made in Jodphur India.

Why India?
Australian Aboriginal people come from a culture rich in story telling, art and artefact making, but not mass manufacturing. Kashmiris and many other cultures, have manufactured handicrafts as a core cultural and economic activity for generations. We have brought these two cultural strengths together, bringing business, economy and partnership to remote and distant communities. Aboriginal artists receive regular royalties and artisans receive payment for the handicrafts they make.
