Harvesting for this paperbark is done by hand, which means that every piece of bark is assessed for quality before it gets to you. Paperbark naturally varies in colour and texture and every so often come across an exceptional piece of bark that we think is too beautiful not to appreciate.
Premium sheets of paperbark have something very special and unique about them. Put a piece of paperbark in a frame to make a unique, naturally coloured wall picture. A great gift idea for someone who is hard to buy for.
Of course they can be used to cook with to impart a smokey flavour to foods such as fish and vegetables.
Aboriginals used to use these as a canvas to create some of their artworks.
The thickness of the bark varies depending on the type of bark harvested. It can be a thin, compact bark to a thick, slightly 'fluffier' bark. Both types impart the same smokey flavour and can be used the same way. One entire piece of bark is included in the pack which may also comprise smaller off-cuts, no less than half a full size sheet.
The bark is wild harvested from Melaleuca leucadendra trees at Seven Emu Station. Pieces are hand cut and manually processed ensuring the best quality bark is received by you. It is a natural product and so natural variations in the bark will occur.
Paperbark imparts a unique smoky flavour to just about any food when wrapped and cooked in it. It was traditionally used by Aboriginals to wrap fish and smoke on hot coals. If you don't often cook with hot coals we recommend wrapping your food in a sheet of bark (it doesn't have to be completely covered in the bark) and then wrapping in alfoil and placing in a BBQ or oven. Place a baking pan over the fish to help enhance the flavour even more.
