Message sticks were used traditionally as a form of communication and passed between different clans to transmit messages for such things as invite to corroboree; a challenge; a meeting; a marriage; a death - all kinds of things. Generally made of wood in various sizes and shapes and markings and comprised of symbols and drawings and could be very intricate or very plain.
“As an artist I wish to bridge the gap between the here and the ancestors who are depicted by the dots and their traditional stories. Creative expressions come from a place deep within the realms of consciousness; everyone is an artist in some way or another! Personally, I feel as though I’m just the receiver of information which I then translate through various artistic practices. These works come through me... not from me! I want others to be inspired to find their own artist within. I feel it is my duty as an artist to share these stories by, creating images for people to connect with.” – David Miller
